St. Casimir III

Here's another photo shot in St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery. This one, like yesterday's photo, was shot with my reverse-lens Kodak.

St. Casimir Cemetery II

I shot this with my reversed-lens Kodak Brownie camera during the visit to a local cemetery I mentioned in yesterday's post.

St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery

In the book Unexpected Chicagoland, there are a few photos shot at St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery. They're in the book because many of the markers there have a unique modern design, looking as much like modernist sculpture as grave markers. I drive right by that cemetery every day on my way to work, and it's been in the back of my mind to go look around there. I finally did jut that a few weeks ago, and was glad I did. The gravestones at St. Casimir are unlike any I've seen anywhere else. Many are made of metal with a rust patina, like the one above. Others are granite, but have a lot of texture and interesting design. Some of these markers reminded me a bit of sculpture in the Communist Sculpture Park in Budapest I visited a few years ago.

These photos were all shot with my digital camera, and were intended to capture the markers, not to be great photos. Over the next few days, I'll post photos shot with my toy cameras that are hopefully a little more creative.

Busy

Busy and preoccupied with other things right now. Here's a photo. That's all.

Frosty Window

This photo was shot a few years ago on a bitterly cold winter day-so cold that the windows in my house frosted over. The weather was unpleasant, but the frost was very photogenic.

Downtown Toronto

You're looking at Downtown Toronto, shot through the window in the tower of Casa Loma on an amazingly humid day last August.

Shishi

Scanning some negatives tonight, and just found this photo of a Chinese guardian lion, which I shot a couple of weeks ago in Chinatown with my reversed lens Kodak Brownie camera.

Distillery District

I shot this panoramic view of the Distillery District in Toronto last August. It's a lovely area of Victorian era industrial buildings repurposed as a shopping and dining area.

Iroh

I shot this photo in a Chinatown shop window a few years ago. Not long after that, I made a gum bichromate print of it. Here's how that looks:

I call this piece Iroh, after my favorite character in Avatar: The Last Airbender. The figure in the foreground reminds me a bit of him.

This is one of those 'farting around in my studio' shots, made a few years ago.

Fog Rolling In

This photo was taken at the top of Buena Vista Park in San Francisco. This park and neighboring Corona Heights Park have amazing views. I'm especially fond of the view from Corona Heights Park, but this one is pretty great as well.

Cloud Reflection

This one's a few years old. If I remember correctly, it was shot in Evanston, Illinois on a day I was wandering around with my camera while waiting for my car to be repaired.

Contrails

I went shooting in a Lithuanian cemetery today with very cool Modernist grave markers. I'll probably post some photos of those soon, once I get some film developed. In the meantime, enjoy this photo of contrails also shot while in the cemetery.

Point Reyes?

I think this was shot at Point Reyes National Lakeshore in Northern California, but I don't know for sure, and am too lazy to check.
