Jellies!

I'll be away from home (and away from this blog) for the next week, visiting family in beautiful San Francisco. I'll return with lots of new photos for the blog (and hopefully for a couple of projects I'm working on), but in the meantime, here's a bunch of shots I took at the jellyfish exhibit at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium last weekend.
Enjoy!

Pretty Ivy

The photo would be better if not for my hand reflected in the window. Oh well. Shot on the University of Chicago campus last fall.

Enjoy The Purple

Shot in camera RAW through an infrared filter, then left unprocessed. This was in Portland, I think, in the Japanese gardens.

Chinatown Night

I shot this photo on a rainy night in Chinatown a couple of years ago (the blue spots on the left edge of the photo are from raindrops on my lens). I like the blue light in the window and the motion blur of the people in the street.

Cichlid

Shot yesterday at Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

I wonder where that fish has gone.
You did love it so. You looked after it like a son.
And it went wherever I did go.
Is it in the cupboard?
Yes! Yes! No!…
Wouldn’t you like to know? It was a lovely little fish.
And it went wherever I did go.
It’s behind the sofa!
Where can that fish be?
It is a most elusive fish!
And it went wherever I did go.
Ooooh, fishy, fishy, fishy fish!
A-fish, a-fish, a-fish, a-fishy, ooooh.
Ooooh, fishy, fishy, fishy fish!
That went wherever I did go.

Damaged-My First Book!

I've just published a book on Blurb.com. It's a book of photographs I made back when I was a student, trying a technique on a roll of film and having it come out completely wrong. The images turned out to be pretty interesting, despite the errors. I posted a few images from this project here about a year and a half ago. Follow that link to read more detail about what I was attempting to do with that film.

I'm excited about this book, It's something I've been planning for quite a while. I've got ideas for several more books as well.

Hope you enjoy it!

Cool Old Building

Here's a sinple photo mosaic of an old building in Philadelphia. I can't remember when I shot these photos, I'm thinking it was 2003. Click on the image to see a larger version.

In The Museum

Shot at the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco in October, 2007 as part of a sabbatical project I was working on. In an unrelated note, a scene from the Hitchcock film Vertigo was also shot there.

One More Hipster

The first of my photos finally turned up on the They Might Be Hipsters website. You might remember me posting a bunch of them here a couple of weeks ago. This is the first one I made and posted to They Might Be Hipsters, and I like it, except for forgetting to use a smart quote. The photo was shot with my Holga camera in San Francisco's Japantown in October. 2007.

Update: A second photo I submitted has just been posted!

Mmmmmmmmmm!

Mmmmmm, Mexican street food at Chicago's Maxwell Street Market. I could go for some of those huitlacoche tacos right now!

Forest Preserve Infrared

I shot this photo in the Dan Ryan Woods last week. This is about the highest elevation in the city of Chicago. Behind me a couple hundred feet you can see much of the downtown skyline through the trees.

Chinatown At Dusk

I shot this a few weeks ago in Chinatown. I love the colors in this photo, the orange of the lights contrasted with the gray-blue of the sky.

Sexy?

A very '80's looking couple on this love tester arcade game, shot at Musee Mecanique in San Francisco. Too bad it's not the Love-Matic Grampa!

Lake Katherine

This was shot at Lake Catherine, a  park in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, on Memorial Day. I've been liking the digital infrared lately.

Paper And Rust

Shot in Chinatown a few weeks ago. I was about to post this when I decided to blast the saturation and contrast  some. Here's the new one. Which do you like better?
