Open

Took some film in to be developed a few days ago. This photo was on one of the rolls. It was shot with my reversed lens Brownie camera in St. Joseph, Michigan last month.
One of the fun things about shooting film (as opposed to digital) is having to wait to see the photos you shot. There's no instant feedback with film (excepting Polaroid or other instant film). When film was the only option, that wait time wasn't always fun. Sometimes, a shot you were really looking forward to turned out to be a piece of crap. On the other hand, shots you completely forgot about would show up, and sometimes, they were great shots. I remember shooting this one, and turned out pretty nicely.

Night In Vancouver

A photo from my recent vacation.  This was shot off of the balcony of my 21st floor hotel room in Vancouver.

Riding The Metro

Blurred commuters wait for the train in Washington DC's subway. I like the barrel vaulted roof of the DC Metro. Actually, I like the Metro in general. It's relatively pleasant, as subways go.

Fall?

This recent nice (for once) weather in Chicago is feeling a little like early fall. Fall is my favorite season, so I'm looking forward to it. This was shot in the fall a couple of years ago on the University of Chicago campus.

A Boring Photograph

Yes, it's boring. I actually kind of like boring photos. Occasionally, one of my students will make a boring photo that I really like, forcing me to try and explain how boring is a compliment.

Vancouver Towers

One more vacation photo for now. I'll post more from that trip from time to time, but it feels like it's time to post something else now. This was shot in Vancouver. The building in the center is the same one seen at the left in this photo. Vancouver is all glass high rises. Pretty, but not in a historical sense like many other cities.

Blue Lake Boys

Hiking in the Cascades last week, I followed a trail to a partially frozen mountain lake. A guy was there with his three young sons and a dog. The kids were so photogenic in their floppy hats, fishing in the lake, that I had to shoot a few photos. The dad didn't mind, I suspect I wasn't the first one to do so.

Primeval Forest

Beautiful scenery shot while hiking in North Cascades National Park last week. Parts of this trail were deeply shaded, with huge ferns. I half expected to see a dinosaur around every bend.

On The Ferry

I shot this while riding the ferry between Vancouver and Victoria, BC. It was a pleasant, scenic ride, and wifi made it even better.

A random Seattle street scene, shot last week. I imagine myself zipping around on a Vespa scooter when I'm retired. Mine will be turquoise, and I'll be in San Francisco.
