Impressionistic Chicago

Another oldie, this one was shot in 2003 from a window in my sister's old loft on the seventh floor of a building in Chicago's South Loop.

Correction: I must have read the date wrong on the photo in yesterday's post. I'm pretty sure there weren't leaves on the trees in Chicago in February.

Trim 'n Tidy

Going through some old photos, I found this one I shot in February 2005. I'm not sure where it was shot, but I suspect it was somewhere on the northwest side of Chicago. I love that sign.

Real Or Ideal?

Today's mail brought a box with over 600 old, boring postcards I bought on Ebay (I collect boring and tacky postcards, but also use them for collages and other art projects). While looking through these cards, I found this one, and was reminded of my visit to the very spot that photo was taken.

It was a cold, windy, mostly cloudy day when I visited, and I was underdressed for weather that at about 55 degrees fahrenheit seemed way too chilly for July. The clouds obscured Mt. Hood, so I didn't get the postcard views. It was still a beautiful area, however, and the idealized, color saturated view in the postcard doesn't do it justice.

Bleak Netherworld

My sister thinks the photo I posted yesterday makes the place we grew up look like a bleak netherworld. This was taken about 30 seconds before that one, and looks a little less bleak!

Cold night tonight in Chicago. Haven't had too many of those this winter, so it's hard to complain. This photo is frost on a window of my house, shot on a bitter cold day a few years ago.

Wandering around the Sunset district in San Francisco last June, I saw these plants in someone's yard and was instantly envious. I wish I could have plants like that in my yard!

This photo finishes up Noise week (thanks for the idea, Pam!). I shot this last summer in San Francisco. Sunset in the Sunset district. The lens glare works well here.

This was shot out of an Amtrak train window on the outskirts of Portland in July, 2010. I like the color shift in the sky from the polarized window, and how the trees on the right side of the photo are sharp while the rest of the scene has motion blur.
