It's Here!

I guess the holiday season is officially here. I tend to bounce between cynicism and short periods of what might be called holiday spirit at this time of year. I'm sure you can figure out which side this photo falls.

Happy Thanksgiving

Ann Arbor Infrared

This is Ann Arbor, MI, shot from the top of a parking structure last July with a Holga camera and infrared film.

Mom's Backyard

My last post was a repeat of an image I already posted recently (probably not the first time, but I'm too lazy to check). So, here's two photos to make up for it. They're both photos showing the barn-shaped shed in my mom's backyard.

The first one was taken maybe a year or so ago with my old digital camera. The second one was shot last summer with my reversed lens Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera.

Leaf

A solitary leaf on a sidewalk on the University of Chicago campus. Shot a few weeks ago. I didn't move the leaf, it was shot just as I found it.

This Space Reserved

Something a little unusual for this blog: A collage instead of a photo. This is an oldie, I made it around 1984-1985.

Graffiti

Graffiti on an old abandoned train station (a small one, not much bigger than a shack) on the far south side of Chicago. Shot a few weeks ago while wandering around with my camera on a Sunday afternoon.

Gene's Drive-In Cleaners

I've driven by this place dozens of times, but never stopped to shoot that wonderful sign. A few weekends ago, my friend Justyna Badach was in town, and we stopped to take a few photos, me with my crappy Holga camera, Justyna with a real camera. I love that sign!

Timberline Lodge

I shot this last summer on Mt. Hood  in Oregon. It was overrun with snowboarding teenagers; apparently skiers prefer the winter snow, so summer is snowboarding season. The lodge was used for the exterior shots in the film 'The Shining'.

The Pond In Autumn

A goldfish pond on the campus of the University of Chicago, shot a couple of weekends ago.

A Bargain

Looks like it's in great shape! Shot with my Holga camera in Blue Island, IL last summer.

Hydrangea

I shot this photo the same day as the one I posted yesterday. This hydrangea, with the pretty red leaves, was shot with the reversed-lens Brownie Hawkeye camera I've been using a lot lately. I love the look of the photos I get from this camera.

Buddha

I shot this a couple of weekends ago in Hyde Park, one of my favorite places in Chicago. It's the outside of the Smart Museum at the University of Chicago.

Classroom

This photo was shot in an empty room of an elementary school. I've always been fond of this photo, but I think I could have done a better job with color correction.

Infrared Train Station

This is the Rock Island Line train station on 111th St. in Chicago. I shot this last summer with expired infrared film loaded into my toy Holga camera. I'm surprised it came out as good as it did.
