Henderson

Back home from spending the holidays at my mom's in mid-Michigan. I spent the afternoon on Christmas eve driving around with my sister shooting photos. Here's one I shot in Henderson, MI, maybe fifteen or so miles from my mom's house.

I'm off to my Mom's house for a few days to spend the holidays with family. Here's a few photos I shot the last time I was there, over Thanksgiving.

Downtown

This is the Chicago skyline as seen from the Dan Ryan Woods, a forest preserve at 87th and Western on Chicago's southwest side. That area has the highest elevation in the city.

This is a cheap, poorly constructed wrestling figure, shot with a closeup filter on my Holga camera.

Tape Cover

Here's an oldie. It was made as the cover to a mix tape sometime in the '80's (I'm guessing around 1987-88). I don't remember what was on the tape. I found it in a box of junk a few years ago, and decided the collage, but not the tape, was worth keeping.

Fountain Of Time

It's been a while since I posted a photo shot with my crappy 4-lens Nishika camera. This one is of a section of Fountain of Time, a sculpture located in Washington Park on the western edge of the Hyde Park neighborhood. Shot an an unpleasantly hot day a couple of summers ago.

Ann Arbor Infrared

This is Ann Arbor, MI, shot from the top of a parking structure last July with a Holga camera and infrared film.

Mom's Backyard

My last post was a repeat of an image I already posted recently (probably not the first time, but I'm too lazy to check). So, here's two photos to make up for it. They're both photos showing the barn-shaped shed in my mom's backyard.

The first one was taken maybe a year or so ago with my old digital camera. The second one was shot last summer with my reversed lens Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera.

Leaf

A solitary leaf on a sidewalk on the University of Chicago campus. Shot a few weeks ago. I didn't move the leaf, it was shot just as I found it.

Something a little unusual for this blog: A collage instead of a photo. This is an oldie, I made it around 1984-1985.

Graffiti

Graffiti on an old abandoned train station (a small one, not much bigger than a shack) on the far south side of Chicago. Shot a few weeks ago while wandering around with my camera on a Sunday afternoon.

Gene's Drive-In Cleaners

I've driven by this place dozens of times, but never stopped to shoot that wonderful sign. A few weekends ago, my friend Justyna Badach was in town, and we stopped to take a few photos, me with my crappy Holga camera, Justyna with a real camera. I love that sign!

Timberline Lodge

I shot this last summer on Mt. Hood  in Oregon. It was overrun with snowboarding teenagers; apparently skiers prefer the winter snow, so summer is snowboarding season. The lodge was used for the exterior shots in the film 'The Shining'.

A Bargain

Hydrangea

I shot this photo the same day as the one I posted yesterday. This hydrangea, with the pretty red leaves, was shot with the reversed-lens Brownie Hawkeye camera I've been using a lot lately. I love the look of the photos I get from this camera.

Buddha

I shot this a couple of weekends ago in Hyde Park, one of my favorite places in Chicago. It's the outside of the Smart Museum at the University of Chicago.

Classroom

This photo was shot in an empty room of an elementary school. I've always been fond of this photo, but I think I could have done a better job with color correction.

Infrared Train Station

This is the Rock Island Line train station on 111th St. in Chicago. I shot this last summer with expired infrared film loaded into my toy Holga camera. I'm surprised it came out as good as it did.

Mr. Skullhead

I really wanted to post a link to Mr. Skullhead Boneyhands from Animaniacs, but couldn't find one anywhere. You'll have to use your imagination.

Skulls

These are pistachio shells painted to look like skulls. They were in my Mom’s studio when I was visiting there about a year ago. I'm not sure what she was making with them, but thought they were cool and spooky.

Spooky!

I shot this while wandering around my neighborhood last Fall. I like this as a Halloween decoration. It's much better than those polyester spider webs.

Creepy

This is an accidental double exposure, taken with my Holga camera and a close up filter I bought for it. It turned out pretty cool, and a little creepy, definitely a happy accident. I'll see if I can find some more creepy photos to post, now that it's Halloween week.

Animal

I shot this with my modified Brownie Hawkeye a few weeks ago. It's a large statue in a local cemetery.

Leaf

Here's another photo from my shooting excursion to Hyde Park yesterday. I shot this leaf right where I found it, it wasn't moved to improve the shot.

Fall In Hyde Park

The heavy rains forecast for today turned out to be a fairly brief morning shower, so I grabbed some cameras and headed to Hyde Park, one of my favorite Chicago neighborhoods. Spent a couple of hours wandering around the University of Chicago campus, shooting colorful leaves against gray neo-Gothic architecture. Beautiful.
