January can be amazingly cruel. It seems that every January there's a brief warm period which gets rid of all the accumulated snow and puts a glimmer of hope for an early spring in your heart. Then winter comes roaring back. We're in the 'roaring back' stage now in Chicago after several days in the mid 40's. Ok, the warmish days weren't all that great, they were heavily overcast and rainy. Still, today's 2o degree weather and blowing snow seems like a slap in the face.
