Triple Dutch

Today’s photo is three versions of a panoramic image shot on a bike path near the village of Wenum, outside of Apeldoorn in The Netherlands. It’s actually slightly more than a 360 degree view, which you can see if you look closely (click on the photo for a larger version). In the third panorama, the first and last photos are actually the same photo repeated.
These photos were shot in June, 2005, when I was in The Netherlands as part of an educational exchange. This bike path along a canal was close to the home of my exchange partner, where I was staying.
I shoot panoramas like this quite often. I like retaining the look of the individual photos within the panorama, so I never blend them together.

Still In Fashion

One more photo shot with the Holga camera. Tomorrow's photo will be something different.
This one was shot sometime last summer. I rode my bike quite a bit, and would often throw my Holga into my bike bag. This old advertising mural is on a building in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood on Chicago's southwest side. It's a short bike ride from Beverly, the neighborhood I live in.
The color is a little funny in this photo. I only use expired film in the Holga (it seems fitting for a toy camera), and occasionally wind up with color shifts as a result.

Orange X

Today's photo was taken on the same day as the one I posted yesterday. I was in Countryside, IL, walking around waiting for my car to be repaired. I took this photo because I liked the look of the orange paint on sidewalk contrasted with the green grass. The vignetting from the Holga camera adds a bit of mystery.

Countryside, Illinois

Beautiful Countryside, Illinois. An ironic name, seeing as how the entire town seems to be a typical suburban sprawl of strip malls and tract housing. It's where I get my car serviced, and it's about 30-40 minutes from where I live, so when the Subaru is in the shop, I take my cameras and shoot the landscape while waiting for the repairs to be completed.
This one was taken last June, with a Holga toy camera. I wrote a little about the Holga camera here in my other blog. I like this photo a lot. I'm a sucker for old 40's-60's commercial architecture and signs like that one.

More Photos

My internet connection is working sporadically, no thanks to Earthlink. (We’re changing service providers this week).

I’ve got some catching up to do, so here’s a few photos.


You know how sometimes you’ll have an idea, and it seems really good at the time, but then you come to your senses and realize it’s going nowhere? These photos are from one of those times.


I took these photos last summer. At the time, it somehow made sense to run pages of an old high school yearbook from 1962 (bought at a garage sale) through a paper shredder, and then photograph the results with a macro lens.


I was planning on making Polaroid lifts with these images, but the Polaroid film was being uncooperative (Polaroid film is known for having color shifts, and I didn’t like what that did to these images). While trying to find a solution to that problem, the entire entire project fizzled out.


The photos turned out kind of interesting, if a little unusual. These are four of the better ones.

Interruption

Murphy's Law strikes again. Right after I start a blog to post a photo every day, my internet goes down at home. The last two photos I've posted were done from work, but after today, I won't be back at work until Monday. Someone is coming out to look at our DSL connection tomorrow, but there's no guarantee that we'll have service back. So, it might be a few days before you see a new photo appear here. If there is an interruption, I'll make it up on Monday, I promise!

In a related note, I just want to pass along the fact that Earthlink has, without a doubt, the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. Every time I've had to call them, for any reason, was an ordeal. Last night, they kept me on hold for over 50 minutes before I hung up. They were not interested in doing anything about our interruption in service until we called the billing department and told them we were canceling our service. Only then did they schedule a technician to come out.
Think about that before you sign up for Earthlink.

Amsterdam Cat

When I was in Amsterdam last summer, It seemed like there was a cat hanging around every cafe. Here's one of them. A cute photo, but not the type of image I would use to make a piece of art from.
