This photo was shot in Zion National Park in 2001. A beautiful place, you should go.

Waterlooplein, Amsterdam

The later part of winter always puts me in the mood to travel. Maybe it's because I want to escape the cold and the gray. As I start to think about possible summer travel, Europe's been sounding pretty interesting. That probably won't happen this summer, however.
This photo was taken last time I was in Europe, in August,2007.

Play Piano

This is a photo of an architectural model of the new Modern wing of the Art Institute of Chicago. It was designed by Renzo Piano. Hence the title of this post. Give me a break, I'm tired, it's been a long week, and the absinthe I drank earlier is still working it's magic!

Dirty Plane

I shot this toy plane in San Francisco's Chinatown. It was part of a window display in a travel agency.

More Snow

So, more snow in Chicago. If this were November, I would be enjoying how peaceful and beautiful it is. In late February, however, I hate it and want it gone.

Chandelier

I shot this photo with my crappy 4-lens Nishika camera in my Mom's backyard. Yes, she has an old chandelier hanging in a tree. A couple of them, in fact. Filled with candles on a warm summer night, the chandelier helps make the yard a lovely place to sip a glass of sangria.

Double Face

I've been doing some shooting for what will eventually be a series of cyanotype prints I'll be exhibiting this June. I'll post more details about that show when it's closer to the exhibition dates. In the meantime, enjoy this reject from my most recent shooting session. I like this shot, it just doesn't fit with the work I'm planning for that exhibit.

More Damaged

Here's another photo from the the story I uploaded to JPG magazine. See yesterday's post for more details.

Damaged

I just posted a story to JPG Magazine titled Damaged. It's a group of photos taken in 1993. I was trying negative reticulation, and it didn't work. This photo is from that same roll of film, but not one I included in the story. Take a look, and if you like it, vote yes at the bottom of the page.

Point Reyes

Ugh. I'm tired of winter. That has nothing to do with this photo, except that I'd love to be there in Northern California right about now.

Floating Face

Here's a recent collage, made just a week or two ago. The idea was pretty simple: Start with an original photo, and add very little (one or two items) to create a simple collage. I did several of these, and will likely post a couple more of them here. I've been posting recent collages on Lightbender, my other more "serious" blog, and these will likely show up there as well.

CAA

I've just returned from the final day of the College Art Association conference. I'm exhausted, but I had a good time. This year's conference was in Chicago, so I was able to attend without the expense and trouble of travel and staying in a generic conference hotel. I met up with old friends, saw some interesting talks, and bought some art books at greatly reduced prices. Overall, a good conference.

This was taken in a nearly empty conference session, right after lunch on Thursday. Some people Tweet while in conferences. I shoot photos!

4X5 Transparency

Last month, I posted a couple of photos from this student project I shot around 1994. Here's another one. They are photos of plastic picks on a light table, shot with a 4X5 view camera.

Creepy

This photo looks like a scene from a low budget horror film. I shot it around 1989 or so.

Aquincum

I shot this photo in the Aquincum ruins in Budapest. If you ever get the chance, it's a very interesting place to visit. I made a Polaroid lift of that photo a few months after I shot it. You can see that lift below.

I Need Sun

It's been gray, gray, gray in Chicago. This later part of winter is starting to wear me down. Here's a photo of a sunny morning in San Francisco to warm me up.

Former Fast Food Place

I shot this former fast food place in Blue Island, IL last summer using an old Kodak camera I bought at a garage sale. I like the '60's look of the building, and I like the rounded corners that camera gives to photos.

Boring

I like this Holga camera photo. It's boring, but in a good way. Shot on a horribly hot summer day last year.

SF Bath

This is a Polaroid lift of a photo I shot through the bathroom window of my sister's old apartment in San Francisco. That apartment had the most amazing views, as you can see.

Digital Breakup

I got hit with a bit of inspiration last night around 1:30 am and shot some digital breakup patterns off of the tv. Most of them didn't come out well, it was difficult to focus, and I needed to use a tripod. I might try this again later.

Silverswords

This is the beautiful interior of Haleakela, the dormant volcano that comprises more than 75% of the island of Maui. The plants in the foreground are silverswords, an endangered species found only in the Haleakela crater.
